Toddler Trail Mix

I haven't written many foodie posts, but we had such fun with this one that I thought I'd let you know!

Trail mix: a tasty blend of dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and grains, often with chocolate.

Recently I have been making various toddler-friendly snack mixes, omitting the seeds, nuts and chocolate.

In today's version, I did a mix of plain Cheerios (the ones in the yellow box that are the least sweet), raisins, Special K flakes and fruit Shredz. If you haven't come across Shredz before, they're by Plum Organics and are little strips of fruit leather. They only contain naturally occurring sugars, and certainly no corn syrup, high fructose or otherwise! There may well be other brands that have a similar product (I know that there are Fruit Wriggles in the UK).

This blend worked particularly well today because F decided to try and thread a Cheerio onto the stick of Shredz - pretty good fine motor skills practice! He then ate the Cheerio from the Shredz and tried threading another Cheerio.

Providing a mixture of textures and flavours in one bowl has got to be a pretty good thing for your little one. It will keep well if kept in an airtight container, too. Have some fun creating your own blend, tailor-made to your child's preferences!
